Charles was born on August 3, 1963, in Nigeria. Born in the Nigerian ethnic group Yoruba, he spent most of his early years in Nigeria and later migrated to Greece.

He married his loving wife, Veronica Antetokoumpo, in Nigeria. However, the exact date of their wedding is not revealed yet, but they were married in the presence of family, relatives, and elders.

Veronica, on the other hand, belongs to Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria. In addition, she was also a former sportsman who used to participate in the high jump competition.

He started his professional career with Filathlitikos, where he averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.

Thanasis was selected 51st overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. He did, however, make his NBA debut two years later, in 2016.

In 2019, he signed with Milwaukee Bucks and reunited with his brother Giannis and jointly won the 2021 NBA Final together with Bucks.
