Darwin Thompson | High School Career

He went on attending Jenks High School and played as a backup running back there.

Darwin scored 10 touchdowns for 942 yards on 152 carries as a senior year player and helped the team grab a Class 6A-I state championship.

An American network site, 247 Sports, rated Darwin as a three-star recruit and the 16th highest-rated recruit in the state of Oklahoma.

Moreover, Darwin loved working out during his high school days to turn out to be a running back, not playing defense.

Despite the standout career in his high school, he did not receive any offers from any universities.

After a certain time, he earned zero NCAA Division I scholarship offers and attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, a junior-level college in Miami, Oklahoma.

Darwin was redshirted for the 2015 season, and later in the next season, he notched 1,029 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 150 attempts.

He was on the verge of progression and also was titled Offensive MVP of the Southwest Junior Football Conference and an NJCAA second-team All-American.

After accomplishing his junior college also, Darwin was rated as a three-star recruit and became the best JUCO all-purpose back in the country by 247Sports.

JUCO was his luck, he said. The only mantra that he followed to keep him constant was the curls he did every day getting out of bed or getting into bed.

Following that, he played at Utah State on December 17, 2017.

Darwin played an entire season at Utah State, initiated in nine games, and performed in 13 in the year 2018.

Darwin deliberately wanted to prove those wrong who kept doubting him, who told him he is slow and is not big enough to be an NFL player.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected him with the 214th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It was a lucky break given to him by Kansas General Manager Brett Veach.

Kansas had different thinking towards Darwin while selecting him. They considered him as an offensive weapon, which can be utilized in many ways.

They even made comments like Darwin is more than his capacity. His size, athletic ability, and speedy catching characters were enough to prove himself a dynamic player.

He performed in 12 games for his rookie season and obtained 37 carries for 128 rushing yards with nine receptions for 43 receiving yards.

Darwin also helped his team win  Super Bowl LIV after knocking out the San Francisco 49ers, which also became his first championship.

Coming to his aspects of life, Darwin faced a bit of a different kind of trouble.

He had to always listen to comments on his size, as he was just 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was overlooked and underrated. Darwin knew that he had to make up for his size, which he did too.

And, that was the weight room. He knew he had to build his core, strength, and base.

Darwin put all his focus on being strong in the lower half. He used to take an example of guys like Adrian Peterson, Alvin Kamara, DeMarco Murray, and Marshawn Lynch.

As a result, Darwin ended up losing a maximum body fat of less than five percent. Instead, he has put on a lot of muscle.

As per sources, he weighs around 190 lb since he got hired into NFL and is quite flexible and movable. He was quicker than anyone. Also, he weighed around 200lb before his draft into the NFL.
