David Boudia – Early Life and Family

The national diver, David was born on April 24, 1989, in Abilene, Texas, United States. He was born to proud parents Jim Boudia and Sheilagh Boudia.

Likewise, David grew up with his two sisters Shauni Boudia and Shaila Boudia. He studied at Noblesville High School and graduated from there in 2007.

Boudia has been diving since 2000. The young diver made his way to the United States National Diving team in 2005 for the first time.

Boudia participated in the Olympics for the first time in 2008. He was named to the United States Olympic team that competed in swimming at 2008 Beijing.

Boudia partnered with Thomas Finchum again for the 2009 World Aquatics Championship.

Boudia switched from 10 m to 3m for the World Aquatic Championship. He also made the decision owing to the concussion that he suffered from.

However, he could not win any medals and finished 5th in the 3 m springboard event.

Boudia initially unsure if he wants to return to the Olympics again after 2016 Rio de Janeiro or retire instead.

In fact, he opted for a break from international competitions in 2017.

Nonetheless, he decided to return in the fall of 2017 and prepare for his fourth Olympics. The gold he had won in 2012 London motivated him to win further golds.

However, he suffered from a concussion in February 2018. It happened because of an error in training that enabled him to crash into the water. He crashed very hard and also experienced blackout and dizziness.

But Boudia still had high hopes. He still went for the Olympics trials.

Not Qualified?

Boudia finished third at the United States Olympics trials for Tokyo 2020. He got there by a small margin of 5.5 points for the 3 m springboard.

Likewise, Boudia was the oldest diver to compete in the trials, and also it was his first time for the 3 m springboard.

He had prepared with his family in lockdown for the Olympics.

However, Boudia stated that he was still filled with joy despite not participating in the Olympics.
