At the age of 7, the famous alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn had already skied in Colorado, Oregon, and Minnesota all year round. She used to travel by train to Colorado to get her skiing lessons at the Ski Club Vail.

In 1995, when she met Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street, she felt inspired to become like her. Lindsey considers Picabo to be her role model. Later, Picabo partially mentored Vonn in skiing.

After several years of difficult commute for training, Lindsey and her family finally moved to Vail, Colorado. In her first year at SCV(Ski Club Vail), the endearing athlete developed challenging and demanding conditions; the skiers were not trained inside the gates.

Lindsey received her lessons from a female coach, Colby S Scudder. Scudder made it possible for Vonn to enroll in the age-class skiing program, which was not allowed for her age skiers.

Under that program, she received training from multiple coaches, such as Todd A Rash, Reid Philips, and Gus Peretz, who helped her perfect her technical skills. Additionally, she began the  “in-gate” training.

In 2003, Lindsey finally secured a silver medal downhill at the ‘Junior World Championship in France. Furthering her win, in January 2004, she made third place downhill at the World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Lindsey became the winner of the overall ‘World Cup’ title. She is the second American woman to be honored with the most downhill victories after Tamara McKinney.

The World Cup champion, Vonn, won the ‘US Alpine Championships’ combined title in 2008. Most importantly, in 2009, she became the first woman to win the world super-G title, held in Val-d’Isere, France.
