The professional hockey player, Nazem Kadri, was born as Nazem Samir Kadri in London, Ontario, Canada. He is the only son of parents Sam Kadri and Sue Kadri.

Later in the 2007-08 season, the OHL traded Nazem to the London Knights in exchange for other draft picks.

However, being cut from the team, Nazem returned for Team OHL and was selected to play in the 2009 Subway Super Series.

Not to mention, he also made his second appearance in the OHL’s All-Star Game. In addition, the CHL awarded him the Player of the Week following his nine points record in three games.

In April of 2010, Kadri was named the League’s Player of the Month, where he recorded 26 points in just ten games.

Professional Hockey Career

Since he could walk, Kadri, who has been playing, finally played professionally with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

During the 2009-10 season, Nazim played in six pre-season games and recorded three goals with two assists.

Since he failed to reach the standard of head coach Ron Wilson’s expectation, the young Kadri was returned to the Knights.

But in 2010, following the injury of forwards Christian Hanson and Fredrik Sjostrom, Nazim was called up to the Leafs.

With this, Kadri made his NHL debut on February 8, 2010, against the San Jose Sharks.

Though he was likely to stay with the Leafs, Wilson’s and then general manager Brian Burke’s comments indicated otherwise.

Moreover, Burke biased rookies who gained experience at the American Hockey League(AHL) before NHL.

Despite many problems and possibilities, Nazim finally cut with the Leafs. And on November 16, he recorded his first NHL point against the Nashville Predators.

Two days later, Kadri recorded his first multi-point against the New Jersey Devils. Following his first NHL career goal against Boston Bruins, Nazim was named the AHL All-Star Game.

Kadri then began training under former NHL player and maple Leaf Gary Roberts to hone his skills on ice and play more explosively.

Likewise, in the 2012-13 NHL season, Kadri made the starting roster for the Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens.

Things looked better after that for young Nazem as he kept making progress and scored points along the way.

Kadri even scored his first career hat-trick in a match against the New York Islanders.

Becoming a better Centre and Colorado Avalanche

After his stellar performance and progress, the Leafs signed Nazim under a two-year contract worth $5.8 million.

But Kadri faced numerous suspensions either for close contact with players or for his lack of punctuality.

Despite the setbacks, Kadri ended the season with 39 points in 73 games, leading all Toronto Centres in goals.

During the 2016-2017 season, Kadri suffered from other suspensions. He was even fined $5000 for his second and third diving infractions of the season.

However, Nazem showed no drawbacks in his game and was lauded by the Leafs for his penalty drawing abilities.

That season alone, Kadri set a league-leading best 49 penalties, including 45 points, 28 assists.

Likewise, in 2017, Kadri scored his 100th career NHL goal against the Calgary Flames. This season too, Nazem faced numerous suspensions that cost the team heavily.

Finally, after spending ten years with the Leafs, Nazem was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on July 1, 2019.
